EFT- Emotional Freedom Techniques

“Our negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the body’s energy system”

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a revolutionary treatment method that offers healing from physical and emotional pain and disease.

Also known as Energy Psychology, Meridian Psychology or simply ‘Tapping’, EFT works to clear such disruptions and eliminate the resulting emotional response or intensity to restore emotional harmony and offer relief from physical discomfort.

When you experience a negative emotion, such as stress, anxiety or a negative belief, you tense up.  In EFT, we say that you have a block in your energy system. When you tap on a specific set of points around the body, you tap on all of the major meridians in the body, and send a vibration down the energy line which causes the block to loosen a little. You keep on tapping until the block is completely removed and now when you think of what was previously causing you stress, you feel calm, relaxed and at ease. While tapping on the selected points, we also say words that are related to whatever is bothering you so it is both a physical and a talking therapy.

EFT Tapping comes under the banner of energy psychology which is a good description as it deals with the energy system, and our thoughts, beliefs and feelings. EFT can be used on anything including general stress, pain relief and anxiety. For me, the real beauty of EFT tapping is when we change long held, beliefs, behaviours and overcoming past traumas.

Often referred to as “Psychological acupressure”, the technique works by releasing blockages within the energy system which are the source of emotional intensity and discomfort. These blockages in our energy system, in addition to challenging us emotionally, often lead to limiting beliefs and behaviours and an inability to live life harmoniously.

Resulting symptoms are either emotional and/ or physical and include lack of confidence and self esteem, feeling stuck anxious or depressed, or the emergence of compulsive and addictive behaviours.

It is also now finally widely accepted that emotional disharmony is a key factor in physical symptoms and dis-ease and for this reason these techniques are being extensively used on physical issues, including chronic illness with often astounding results.

As such these techniques are being accepted more and more in medical and psychiatric circles as well as in the range of psychotherapies and healing disciplines.

An EFT treatment involves the use of fingertips rather than needles to tap on the end points of energy meridians that are situated just beneath the surface of the skin. The treatment is non-invasive and works on the ethos of making change as simple and as pain free as possible.

EFT is drawing attention from the broad spectrum of healing professionals; from the scientists to the spiritualists and everyone in between.

Why choose this form of therapy?

  • It is a positive, proactive experience
  • It is a technique and skill that you will be able to use at any time
  • Often works where nothing else seems to
  • Usually rapid, long lasting relief from symptoms
  • Can be self applied (some cases are more complex, however, and may require more detailed attention from an experienced EFT Practitioner)
  • No drugs or equipment needed
